  • Did these come with wheels? Hunh. I thought just leg levelers.
  • Ryu21 said: Also, how the hell can get to the wheels by myself? Is this one of those jobs that I’m just going to have to ask a friend to help me tip the machine over? Click to expand…

  • How I have done this myself with other cabinets is that I take the monitor and anything loose (PCB…power supply if it isn’t bolted down, etc.) out of the machine. The monitor is a big chunk of what makes most stand up cabinets heavy and awkward. With the Big Blues I would think about disconnecting and taking the control panel box off as well, both for weight and because you may want to push it onto its side instead of back.* Click to expand…

  • So Im starting my restore on my big blue i got a few days ago and i figured id take a pic of these before i finish peeling em off
  • I have the big blue with the detachable small marquee box. When i got the cab it just had the 2 blue discs between the cab and the marquee. When I got the cab home and opened her up, at the bottom of the cab under the manual were the 3 other discs, like the see through orange hue plastic discs. They still have the paper film around the outside, the operator never bothered to put them on. I figure these are probably like the only NOS of these around so I took a few pics before I unwrapped them to put on my cab.

  • Here’s another bit of information on the Capcom Big Blues.
  • It seems that there may be some variations of the later stage Big Blue’s that don’t even use the same speakers and/or speaker grills.
  • The one I currently have looks just like many of the other cabinets that have the larger, protruding speaker grills, and the Q-Sound decal… except that this one has different speaker grills, possibly different speakers, and it doesn’t have a Q-Sound decal.
  • It’s not equipped with a Q-Sound amp either, but I don’t know if it ever had one before or not.
  • This is not the first Big Blue that I’ve seen with these thinner speakers/grills before either. I’ve come across a few like this throughout the years.
  • So I’m just guessing that these may be an “in-between” version of Big Blue cabs, and that they may have come out just after the OG SF Champion Edition Big Blues, before they started installing Q-Sound amps and better speakers into the cabinets.
  • Here’s a picture of my cabinet.

    1. If it had a Q-Sound unit, you should see drill holes on one side of the board mount shelf. They seem to be installed on the left side, with the game PCB on the right. Click to expand…

  • You mentioned seeing a couple of these. Were they all local and in the same area? One theory is that this is something a local operator may have done to his big blues. Just tossing it out there, because I don’t remember seeing this type of speaker grill.

  • cmutt said: The Capcom Big Blue cabinet in that picture was a Marvel Super Heroes when I got it, but I’m not into the VS games at all so I converted it into a SF-CE style cab.
  • I did something similar to an old Z-Back that I had too. It had some other CPO, bezel, marquee, side art, and it was a bit beat up. So I stripped it down, touched it up, repainted it, and restored it to a SF-CE style as well. Click to expand…

  • I just want to be clear that I’m not trying to debate against the theory that the speakers are legit. I just think we all benefit in being absolutely sure and not jumping to conclusions. Capcom cabinets are confusing enough as is.
  • I don’t recognize them and this is the first time I’ve seen them. What does it look like from the inside? Are the holes truly cut to fit those or could they be the same shape as the regular Q-sound speaker box, but with a different speaker/plate?
  • I mean, I see one side where it’s like, why would an operator do that? At the same time, ops did a lot of nonsensical hack job shit. We could also easily replace “operator” with “Capcom” in those last two sentences and it would ring true as well.
  • …and KV is just being his lovable OCD-self about what games belong in what cabinets. Don’t take it personally.
