  • DonPanetta said: Here’s an interesting big blue a friend of mine stumbled upon and sent me photos of. This darkstalkers cabinet seems to have been assembled directly by capcom. It’s laminated on one side and bare MDF on the other (not particle board). haven’t seen another big blue like it before. Click to expand…

  • DonPanetta said: Two things.
  • This MDF big blue cabinet was manufactured directly by Capcom Coin-Op sometime around 1994-1998. Likely sometime during the second half of the 90’s. made at the Arlington-Heights facility they shared with and eventually completely took over from Romstar.
  • Second, I’d like to introduce you to Romstar/Capcom Do Brazil’s Big Blue. Capcom and Romstar would create a joint-venture in Brazil sometime around 1992 and much like North America, Street Fighter brought a resurgence to the Brazil’s arcade scene. They even opened a chain of arcades together before Capcom purchased Romstar in 1995. The Romstar name seems to have been continually used in Brazil a bit longer than it was in the US. Capcom seems to have officially folded Romstar Do Brazil in 2005. Brazilian arcade fans also call these cabinets the “Big Blue” just like we do.

  • The first pictures look like a 1st gen in a 19” form factor; the proportions look off to me. The “2nd gen” version next to the Neo-Geos looks better to me. Still a very cool official version that I was never aware of, thanks for sharing!

  • KidVidiot said: Had to remind myself today that Hyper Fighting does not have a big blue marquee. There is one pictured on google images but it’s obviously a regular-sized marquee blown out of proportion.
  • So the current big blue marquee list looks like this:
  • 19XX: The War Against Destiny
  • Alien vs Predator
  • Battle Arena Toshinden 2
  • Captain Commando
  • Cyberbots
  • Darkstalkers
  • D&D Tower of Doom
  • D&D Shadow over Mystara
  • Eco Fighters
  • Knights of the Round
  • Marvel Super Heroes
  • The Night Warriors
  • The Punisher
  • Saturday Night Slam Masters
  • Star Gladiators
  • SF2 CE
  • SF Alpha
  • SF Alpha 2
  • Street Fighter: The Movie
  • Super Puzzle Fighter 2 Turbo

  • I’m trying to find a reasonable alternative to original speaker grills for the Big Blue (this version.) Have you found something that works? I think they’re something like 5.5” by 9” including the outer cover and 4”x6” for the mesh alone.

  • Thanks. Since there’s no pre-existing replacement, I may go with wood for the bezel. Not 100% sure about the dimensions, but it looks to be 4” x 6” interior and 5.25” x 8.625” exterior with rounded corners of about 0.625”.

  • For the sake of posterity, The multi cabinet Super Street Fighter II and 2-cabinet slam masters have special holes with threaded inserts to allow you to mount the black trim for Super Street Fighter II or the giant center marquee for Slam Masters between the two cabinets. These also have the additional hole for the communications cables.

  • Yes indeed. They also have a special control bracket for the 3p/4p. Here’s my cabinet.
  • Cover plate for the comm/link cable hole
  • Control panel bracket with empty 3p/4p wiring harness connectors

  • I would love to find the actual brackets that mounted the middle three separate pieces of artwork for Slam Masters. I’m having to improvise for my restore. Also, is there a Super Street Fighter II Ultimate Competition marquee that has survived the dumpster?
