  • Attached is a picture. I recently purchased one of these on eBay as I was curious how they sounded as I’m in search of a Big Blue cabinet due to the Q-sound amp setup.

  • Here are some good pics I found on the net of the speakers, and they appear to be the same as the Capcom Big Blue speaker in that other pic, so I’m going to assume that these are the real deal.
  • I don’t see the foam padding on the front of the speaker boxes in this pic, but maybe it was removed on these speakers since the person obviously took them out of a cabinet. Or unless these speakers where purchased as parts or something.
  • Anyhow, I don’t see any holes in the front for screws or bolts for mounting, so I’m still wondering how they attach/mount to the inside of the cabinets.
  • However they go… I’m having a hell of a time finding them anywhere!

  • cmutt said: Could someone please post some detailed pics of their Big Blue speakers and grills. I’d like to see some close-up shots of what they look like from both the inside of the cabinet and outside. It would help me in identifying the parts as well, if they’re even available anywhere.
  • If anyone can offer any advice or info., I’d appreciate it.

  • Since were talking about q-sound…have probably an easy question for the experts.
  • I am 99% sure I know the answer to this, but I just want to ask. I’m running a non CPS2/3 Jamma board in my big blue at the moment. When doing so the sound is unbearable loud through the amp.
  • Since the volume control was always on the boards of the CPS1/2 games is there really no other way to adjust volume on these cabinets? I followed the wiring and it all trails back to my original CPS3 game through a separate harness.
  • I don’t see adjustment pot on the Amplifier. So I’m pretty positive the answer is no. But just in case I’m a doofus and missed something…I thought I’d ask

  • well at he risk of getting flamed…let me preface this by saying - it’s not something I intend to run long term.
  • I’ve had this Pandora’s Box 2 Multi-Game board for about a year now…I’ve never been able to use it (haven’t had a horizontal cab other than a neo geo till now) and I thought I would plug it in to see how it works and to play a few of the CPS2 games to see which direction I ultimately wanted to go in this cab.
  • So I’m using the headphone audio jack output on the board to a RCA stereo splitter and then going right into the Q-sound amp. Audio does not appear to pass though to the amp in this cabinet any other way.
  • And unfortunately there is a volume slider on the PCB and either it doesn’t work or it only works on adjusting volume through the edge connector, because through the audio jack adjusting the volume pot slider does nothing whether through the q-sound or even with headphones hooked up.
  • I pretty much figured this was the case. I do see the volume up/volume down coming off the CPS3 harness and going into the momentary switches on that little administrative panel through the coin door. But even with the CPS3 game connected…those Vol + and Vol - buttons don’t seem to do anything.

  • I recently bought some monitors from an arcade guy I met off of craigslist. While I was there I bought a few other odds and ends he had lying around. He had a bin of wiring harnesses and some random coin doors and speaker covers for sale so I picked it up. Anyway I think the speaker cover is the original metal speaker panel off of a Capcom Big Blue “Original”. Like the champion edition Street fighter 2. This panel is all you would need in order to make yourself a new big blue from scratch. It would be hard to replicate that metal piece. The wood parts would be no problem. I don’t have the woodworking skills for that. If anyone is interested let me know. Its pretty cool what you can find in old operators stuff. IMHO the first Big Blue cabinet is the best! I would love to get my hands on one. I have a Z back im restoring now but damn the Big Blues are sweet.

  • I noticed that as well. This is another point leaning towards them being legit.
  • Your cabinet is definitely not a CE/Captain Commando, as the control panel sticks out the sides (the CP’s are lined up and tucked into the sidewalls on those). Which just has me scratching my head even more.
  • I wish you had the tags on the back. It would help us work out when the cabinet appeared and give us another clue.
  • Weird. Don’t toss them out.

  • cmutt said: You know, beyond some insider coming out and giving us a complete rundown of all the different variations and specs of all the Big Blue cabinets, and basically answering all of our unknowns… the only way we’ll be able to find the answers is by doing what we’re doing here in this thread (and in other threads like it), which is just researching and comparing notes among ourselves.
  • In this particular case, I think the best bet is if someone who has the exact same style Big Blue as mine, (that is, the style with the large marquee, that is not detachable) opens up his cabinet and takes some detailed pics of:
    • the type of speakers
    • the type of speaker grills
    • how they are mounted
    • the inner layout of the speaker compartment
    • how the speakers are wired (to determine what the original wiring looks like)
    • and any other revealing or relevant details
  • Ryu21’s pics were a big help, but since his cab is different than mine in the speaker and marquee area, it doesn’t give us an exact comparison to learn from.
  • I know that’s a lot to ask from someone out there, but that’s why we’re all here, and that’s what these threads are all about, right.
  • So hopefully someone can help us shed some more light on this soon.
  • Peace Click to expand…

  • sosage said: Both of mine are this type. The first Q-Sound version in the OP. I’ll get around to it when I can, but like I mentioned before, it’s a pain in the ass to get to them right now.
  • For shits n’ giggles, measure the height of the speaker panel wood portion of the cabinet. Between the top of the monitor panel and bottom of the marquee. In your pictures they look taller, but it just may be the speaker grills giving off that impression. Click to expand…
