  • Alrighty Big Blue fans and owners, I am going to work with KLOV member ‘boostin4hp’ to leverage his resources at reproducing top notch control panels to create reproductions of the following CP’s:
    1. Gen 1 Big Blue control panel
    1. Gen 2 Big Blue 2player control panel
  • I am going to send him extensive photos of what I have (I have four Gen 1’s and two Gen 2 2-player cabs), ship off the OG’s to him so he can use them as templates, we are going to discuss the turn around time on this effort, and I will QA whatever he produces to make sure they are a form fit on my cabs. From there, welp, everyone will have a source to pick new fully functional CP’s. It will be the best way to get your cab back up to the original glory short of buying all the metal/wood working tools to do it yourself or commissioning a machine shop to do the same. Once he has the OG CP’s to use as templates, I am sure he can produce the Lexan overlays, CPO’s, etc too, and maybe even update the button layout for those that want the Astro City curved layout for Sanwa buttons.
  • I get no piece of this other than what we agree to initially. I am interested in making this happen for myself, the friends I know that have these cabs, and the community. For those wanting to know his work, here is his thread in the B/S/T sub-forum:

  • Question to those who have painted one of these: how much paint should it take to cover the cab?

  • The third strike and mvc2 are customs.
  • The champ edition Is an original.
  • As for the files I didn’t make them. I gave them my ideas and had them printed onto lexan.

  • acblunden2 said: Slight mods can be made to this to make do though. Probably frustrating, I know but don’t let that stop your enjoyment of the process. I would line up a few of the button holes and fasten them down. Use the buttons to hold the Lexan in place. The from there, mark where the screw holes should be (looks like it is close). Make the existing torx screw holes larger with a larger drill bit. Then use a larger washer to cover the resulting larger hole. If there is any excess on the sides, trace that out and file it down or better yet, use a router flush trim bit if you have one.
  • In this arcade hobby, you sort of have to invest in some tools without becoming a full fledged woodworking shop. For the purpose of the router, I got a Black and Decker Matrix Drill with the changeable heads. I have a router attachment for that drill just for the purpose of flush trimming Lexan overlays. It is small enough to make the job simple and not a chore. A drill like this corded will set you back less than $100 with the flush cutting bit. Click to expand…
