  • Picked up what looked like a Big Blue cabinet pretty much gutted with a Golden Tee 99 PCB and marquee in it.
  • Sides and back painted black latex. Inside is factory painted black.
  • Black vinyl on the control panel box peeled to reveal wood grain.
  • I assume someone found a 4 player control panel (Captain Commando?) To replace whatever CP was hacked for the Golden Tee, but appears some extra button holes were drilled for 3 buttons per player.
  • If anyone needs or wants this CP, let me know.
  • Pulled off the black textured CPO which revealed top edge painted what I think is Capcom Blue. I have nothing original to compare it to.
  • Was able to get some paint off the sticker on the back to reveal a 3 Koam sticker on the left but can’t get the paint off the smaller silver sticker on the right. Need to get some citrus strip, etc. I assume that might be serial number sticker.
  • Front lower panel has vinyl that looks to have been painted black with a spray gun as it doesn’t look rolled like the rest of the cabinet. Some was peeling so I pulled a section and it looks like Capcom blue on the adhesive side and where some of the black is flaking off the front of the vinyl.
  • Internally there is jamma harness and what looks like an original power supply.
  • Not too sure what this cabinet was originally and debating on what to restore it as. SFII CE seems like an obvious choice.
  • Going to try to find a vinyl that matches as close as possible as I don’t really want to paint it.
  • Overall the cabinet is really solid and clean except where someone cut a hole in the front for a bill acceptor.

  • Anyone have an extra set of CP hinges for a Gen 1 or source for them? Mine doesn’t have any.

  • CP kind of hints at Dungeons and Dragon but the coin door throws me off. I would have said Punisher cab if cab was black laminate given coin door is 2p but since it’s blue under I’m gonna lean towards Captain Commando or D&D even if just a 2p coin door.

  • I think the golden tee marquee is the hint. This was probably a 2p champ cab, hacked up for golden tee. At some point someone else found the 3/4 player control panel to replace the hacked up panel. Fortunately someone makes a 2p reproduction panel now.

  • I want to try to get some of the paint off the sides just to see if it’s blue under there as well as on the front or if they just used some blue vinyl on the front but painted over it.
  • Would these 3 Koam cabinets have been blue on the back as well?

  • So just did a little sanding on some areas and either the cabinet sides were originally black or someone pulled off all the vinyl before rolling it.

  • I am leaning towards the cabinet being black from the factory with them reusing some blue vinyl covered wood and woodgrain wood scraps to build out the front of the cabinet.
  • I sanded some of the vinyl I peeled from the front and it was a bitch to get to the original vinyl so I am guessing it is enamel or oil based black sprayed onto the blue vinyl.

  • So, what cabinet would have been all black originally with a 2 slot coin door?
  • Punisher maybe?

  • If it was Golden Tee why doesn’t the panel have a huge 3” hole in the center for the trackball?? That’s super puzzling to me.

  • I put money on a punisher cab since the back door is larger than other big blues.

  • kcorcoran said: That feels like the general concensus.
  • Started stripping the latex paint off side and it went down to the wood so seems like they pulled the old vinyl off or it was black all along.

  • Question now is… turn it back into a Punisher or convert it to a SF2 CE?
  • Would seem SF2CE is more desirable based on sales in past year. Click to expand…

  • Somewhere around here is a rear door comparison of a punisher dedicated vs. a SF2 champ. That would tell you for sure. I tried looking but can’t find it. Its got me questioning if I restored mine wrong.

  • Restoring it to a legit Punisher will cost close to $2000 ($1000 PCB if you can find one for sale + $425 art set + New CP + buttons/sticks + paint/supplies). You can also put the upcoming Darksoft Multi in there. I expect that to be around $700 plus you’ll need a CPS1 A & C Board.
  • If you are just restoring it to good aesthetic and functioning status, SF2CE is the way to go.
