  • sosage said: Looking at the video, the display being used is also in its own matching blue cabinet. I wonder if that was done just for the video (slap some blue vinyl on the side of a rear projection TV so it matches all the other machines in the shot), or if that piece was an official thing/option to go along with this pedestal? • My friends that competed in the 1994 SSF2 tournament, got a bunch of old footage, including the ST prototype. They used some slightly different form of showcase/pedestal cab as well with a single large projection TV.

  • I was able to get a new power supply into the Big Blue pedestal. I fired right up. The composite video converter works, but does have some “artifacts” that make the picture a little messy. I don’t think that is original based on the power wiring being completed with wire nuts. I’ll be swapping it out for an RGB to HDMI converter.
  • My garage is at capacity, so I’ll need to move this game to a new home soon. If anyone would like additional pictures of the game, let me know soon. And definitely let me know if you’d like to new home to be with you

  • Any chance we can get some measurements? I may want to build one so I can place it next to my other big blues. It looks like a chopped up gen 1, so just the height should be fine.

  • JakeJones07 said: I ended up picking up the pedestal. It was a late night pickup so I didn’t have a chance to do a full debug. Pictures are here.
  • Observations:
  • Lots of what appears to be a serial number matches on parts. Cabinet itself look’s factory. Game doesn’t power on (seems like a bad power supply) Power supply is just sitting in the bottom of the cabinet. I need to look more to see if I can find were it was originally mounted. There’s no power switch. And the power video wires are just going through a hole in the back of the game. The game board is connected to some kind of composite video converter. Once I’m able to get a new power supply, I’ll dig in more. Click to expand…

  • I see you posted the showcase cabinet on FB for like $900.
  • I feel you’re pretty much giving it away at that price considering the rarity… not trying to fuck it up for someone trying to get a deal but unless it’s burning a hole in your garage, I’d probably up that asking price based on rarity alone, especially considering what looks like a great condition survivor.

  • DonPanetta said: That’s not always the case. Keep in mind that rarity doesn’t always mean it’s valuable. Without the projection screen and the amount of work required to bring this back to its original state, $900 or so isn’t a bad number. Click to expand…

  • kcorcoran said: ok. but.. let’s think about how much a gen 1 big blue in this condition would go for…
  • certainly at least 1500.
  • nobody is likely sourcing an projection TV… however… adding a new 72” tv to this setup can be done for under $500.
  • all in cost of $1400 for something rare and much more portable than the full Gen 1.
  • not to mention the complete garbage that’s getting sold lately for over 1200… 900 is a bit low… but that’s just my opinion.
  • pricing and value is pretty subjective. i was just thinking through some of the considerations. Click to expand…

  • Hopefully someone that knows what it is picks it up, otherwise it might get painted black and a trackball/steering wheel/flight stick bolted onto it.

  • Kidkaos said: The endeavor of finding a 1:1 50” working rear projector that would need to be de-cased, then retro fitted with Big Blue style vynil would be an expensive and time consuming endeavor. At that point you’re better off sourcing a more portable LED/LCD solution or even wall mount projector.
  • Just My two cents. I don’t think it’s cost effective for me, and don’t think it’s as space saving even compared to a Big Blue this ends up being more of a footprint Similar to a SHOWCASE set up. Very cool, very nostalgic even for me, but not for me in my current set up. This should 100% go to a fighting community for the Super Turbk or Hyper Fighting portion of tourneys. Just my 2 cents.
